Nicholson Chosen as Prime Contractor for Red Bluff Dam Rehabilitation Project
Nicholson Construction was recently named as the Prime Contractor and foundation grouting specialist for the Red Bluff Dam Rehabilitation Project in Orla, Texas.
As part of the rehabilitation effort, the full length of the 87-year-old embankment dam’s foundation will be sealed with a grout curtain in up to three rows along the dam to depths of up to 200 feet.
Located five miles north of Orla, Red Bluff Dam was originally constructed across the Pecos River to provide irrigation to farmlands from Red Bluff to the nearby town of Grandfalls.
Due to compositesite geology, the scope of work will include both high and low mobility grouting and microfine injection grouting. The entire grouting program will be monitored and recorded using GROUT I.T., Nicholson’s proprietary automated computerized grouting system.
“This is a challenging project with a very complex geology,” said Luca Barison, Senior Vice President of Pre-Construction for Nicholson’s Major Projects Group. “It is an internal joint venture between two of our groups, Major Projects and our Rocky Mountain Region, who both bring expertise and experience to the project. We’re looking forward to getting Red Bluff Dam rehabilitated for the Owner and the local communities.”
Nicholson will mobilize to the site by May 2023. The project is expected to be completed by Q3 2025.
